About North Port, Florida

North Port is a city in Sarasota County, Florida, United States. The population was 80,021 at the 2021 census. It is part of the North Port–Bradenton–Sarasota Metropolitan Statistical Area. There are several theories relating to the origin of the city’s name. One suggests it was named after North Port, Massachusetts; another says that it derives from the old nautical term “north port” meaning the left side of a ship when facing forward; and yet another claims that John Pope, one of the original settlers, simply liked the name.
